About the challenge

This challenge is the GDSC at UVA's version of Google's National Solution Challenge competition. Students will be working in teams to try and solve a critical problem that exists in the local Charlottesville area that relates to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Get started

We will begin the competition on February 12, 2024, with an introductory meeting. Students are encouraged to work with a partner and we will be helping to pair people up by interest.

Requirements

What to Build

You are going to be building a technical solution (software and/or hardware-based) to a problem that exists in the local Charlottesville area. There should be a focus on contributing to one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. Learn more about these goals here: (https://sdgs.un.org/goals)

What to Submit

If your solution is software-based, you will submit a GitHub link to the project that you are working on. For final submissions, you will make a short video (<=5 minutes) explaining your project and how it would be helpful in solving a local challenge.

  • UN Sustainability Goals
    Solutions will be evaluated based on how effectively they draw from and contribute to the United Nations Sustainibility Goals.
  • Creativity
    Strong solutions should have an original, useful, and thought-out premise.
  • Pragmatism
    Your solution should be useful in the real world, and presenting a clear use case or set of stakeholders will help it stand out.
